House a Home

Built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit. Eph. 2:20-21

This last week in our ‘shelter in place’ we had a surprise visitor making its house by our home. A lovely surprise to see a bird’s nest beautifully designed outside our bedroom window. Hopefully we will see eggs in there soon. It is a great reminder that life is living and active all around us. This reminded me that life comes to dwell within us – the true meaning of Easter.  Jesus stretched out His arms on the cross, took the penalty of my sin, rend the temple’s curtain and unveiled the plan to make His house my home.

In this crazy time of living at home, life is blooming all around us. Nature is singing and making nests. Trees are budding and we are watching it all unfold because we actually have time to enjoy it. Never before have I paid as much attention to Spring and its transformation. God is doing a new thing all around me and within me. The important thing is to pay attention to the transformation in my heart and home. My prayer is that my new normal is even better than before. That my life – His home – will reflect and bloom with His beauty.

This bird picked a peculiar place to build its nest right next to our bed. We rarely open the shades to those windows, but due to spring cleaning we decided to open the windows to clean. We might have missed it entirely. That is what can happen to many during this time as well. If eyes and hearts are not open to see what God is trying to do in this world and in our homes. He wants to build His beauty and glory in our homes. Let not this story of victory in Jesus dwell in someone else’s home. Christ died so that all can be His holy temple where His love, peace and joy wants to dwell. This is the hope of Easter – building homes where is love dwells for generations!

The bird built its nest for his little ones, making the way for the next generation. Although imperfect as our love and actions may be, God still desires to dwell within us and use us to bring glory to His name. Since that first Easter day, God’s undying presence has made houses His home. This is how I live, move, breathe and have my being. May this joy in Jesus bring a breath of new life in your hearts and home for generations!
