Great Questions

When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him,
“Do you want to be healed? John 5:6

Sometimes it is hard to see the obvious stuff in my life because I am looking either too far at the thing, too long or it is just too hard to see. Being trained as a life coach, I focus on asking great questions. Recently, I saw in my Bible reading how Jesus always asks great questions to his followers. Jesus would ask questions rather than always providing the solution. Why? Good question. He wants me to reflect upon my own heart and to see my own state of being. He knows the answer and the solution to the problem. He wants my heart invested in the process and my faith increased. He wants me to be more open to His questions. Jesus is the best life coach.

Reason
While I was teaching the book of John, Chapter 5, I saw Jesus asked an obvious question to the lame man. This man had been lame for 38 years. He lived by the pool of Bethesda, where lots of invalids lived hoping to be healed by the magic of the pool. Jesus asked him, “Do you want to be healed?” What an obvious question? Why would he be there? His excuse was that he couldn’t make it to the pool in time, because people walked over him and no one helped him into the pool when it was active. Jesus wasn’t telling him, how he could be healed. He was wanting to know the heart of the man. Sometimes the obvious questions are the best.

Response
In the beginning of the book of John, Jesus tells the reader He is the Word. His word was in the beginning with creation and his word is alive and active today. His very words bring healing and life. He just spoke to the lame man, “Take up your bed and walk.” His very words brought healing to the man and life to his soul. The obvious answer was spoken.

Reflection
As I reflected upon this miracle, it became obvious to me. The Word of God can not only bring healing, it becomes a mirror for us to see the obvious. It can help me reflect on who I am and the state of my heart. It can show me where I need healing and a path forward. As I discover more of God, His Truths become clearer and my life starts to reflect Him a bit more clearly. I feel like the light bulb in my heart is starting to illuminate. As it does, I pray He becomes obviously seen in me.

Great Questions
Reason. Response. Reflection.
