Be Authentic: Purpose over Platform

Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ has made me his own. Phil. 3:12

I wrote this note to myself awhile back…lessons I learned from being off FACEBOOK/INSTAGRAM. I know not everyone will agree with my assessment, but I hope it will at least be thought provoking. Daily, we are bombarded with messaging on our phones, entertainment and media. Multiple times a day, I am asking my teenager to get off her device. As a mom with a teenage daughter, messaging and social media influence is real and can be detrimental. I am writing this to her as well as to all of us. Purpose over platform guides and provides perspective to persevere.

Last September, my husband and I were “kicked off” Facebook after our account was hacked and explicit content unnoticed by us was posted. My Freelyfeast account was connected, so it automatically got cancelled as well. (This is why I haven’t been able to post on social media.) At first, I worried about my business profile, but then quickly was relieved to not have to worry about constantly updating and making the “right” content. Managing social media is a full time job. I am not here to have a platform, but pursue a purpose. All that God pours into me, I want to offer up and overflow to others for the purpose of growth!

What I learned from this process of pursuing purpose:

  1. I am not trying to gain followers, I want to attract people to follow Jesus!
  2. Social media numbers do not equate to true growth.
  3. True identity is never found or discovered on Facebook/Instagram.
  4. Social media creates points for “connection” but not community.
  5. Social media provides a platform not a meaningful purpose – “Do as I say, not as I do.” becomes the motto for most.
  6. Social media allows for distractions, not direction.
  7. Social media is a publicity and marketing platform.

My purpose for Freelyfeast:

  • Feed your Faith
  • Trust in Truth
  • Hope in Him

I don’t need Facebook or Instagram to provide meaningful content or connections. A pen, paper and purpose can do just that! God provides the revelation for content and drives my purpose. God guides my connections in my everyday life. My prayer is that I remember this daily and continue to offer everything up to Him!

Purpose over Platform
Perspective. Purpose. Pursue Him!

What revelations do I need to have God show me in this season of life? Who should I be connecting with in my community?
