Lifestyle Shift

“Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.” Romans 12:10

Memorial Day has passed but I still want to remember. There is a Veteran’s Park near my home with this inscription, “Let peace and beauty be found here: Remember those who have served us.” It is bittersweet, yet beautiful to remember and reflect upon those who served for our freedom.  This motivates me to honor them by serving others in my community. In our busy culture, honoring is only given a day, not a month or a year. How can honoring and serving others become a lifestyle?

I love this verse in Romans 12:10. “Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.”  Maybe instead of just remembering to honor others for their service to us for one day, I can shift this in my own heart to honor others as a lifestyle. Really see people with my heart and not just my eyes. Remember how Jesus came not to be served, but to serve us and gave His life.

Recently, I simplified our house rules to only three… LOVE BETTER. SERVE BETTER. LIVE BETTER. This lifestyle is something to strive toward. I hope it will be a more permanent lifestyle shift for myself, my spouse and my kids. All of us are imperfect and continually need help loving well.  We are all inherently selfish and need moral directives to guide us. God knows how much His people need a moral compass. He also tried to simplify His House rules for his people from 10 to 2 house rules… LOVE GOD. LOVE OTHERS.

Loving well and living well is a lifestyle. If you are struggling in your home and need a lifestyle shift, ask God to help you change your house rules to reflect His house rules. Love God first. Honor one another. Serve one another. Love and Live better.

  1. This is beautiful! Thank you for the reminder that even God recognized our need for simple rules. For following the two, we strive for the 10.
