Transitions – Back to School

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12:2-3
This week something happened that did not occur last fall, the school bus arrived to take our kids to school. Full, in-person, 5-day a week school! Cheers to all the bus drivers, teachers and administrators who made this happen. It has been a great transition for my kids. Whether we are walkers, bikers or bus riders, all kids need this transition time to and from school. I realized how much they and we all need transitions in our lives. It helps us handle the routines of life. It gives time to prepare and connect with what is coming next. In the chaos of life, I need these transitions to give me a preparedness, trust and clarity.

I recently trained to be a life coach and a big concept that I learned to help me move forward is having the right mindset about things. This is like taking transition lenses and either looking deeper into the situation or actually stepping back and getting the broader view. Transitions help us to do just that. They give us perspective. One area I realized that needed a mindset shift was my need for perfection, for myself, my kids and even my spouse. Life is not perfect and will never be this side of heaven. Preparedness over perfection is a critical mindset shift I am working on daily. God can help me do this. “Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” (Psalm 124:8). He prepares us and helps us through all the transitions of our lives.

Trust over control is another big mindset shift I am learning to grasp. I have to take my hands off the controls before I spin out of control. We recently reviewed this verse as a family, “Those who trust in the Lord are like Mt. Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.” (Psalm 125:1) God brings clarity as I shift my mind towards Him as the only source of stability and security. He is my rock and resting in Him I have the best mountain view. “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you.” (Isaiah 26:3)

Mindset shifts can bring clarity over confusion. One only needs to turn on the news feed to see the chaos that is swirling around us. How can I find clarity in all the confusion? Transitioning my mind to be steadfast and find freedom in Christ Jesus. God said through the prophet Hosea, “ I will return to my place until they acknowledge their guilt and seek my face and in their distress earnestly seek me.” (Hosea 5:15). Mindset shifts may take some transitioning time, acknowledging our own sinfulness and desire to turn back to our Creator for clarity. Only He can bring true clarity to my confusion.
