Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Romans 10:12
Sometimes it is good to unplug my ears from the noise, especially all the fighting in my home. The other day, it was good to get this revelation and I truly believe it was a God moment for me with my kids. It was a typical summer day, where the sibling squabbles was getting the best of our house. I realized that a good run would help to get the angst out. So we all laced up our shoes and headed to the local park. When we got to Veterans Park, I read the inscription on the wall to my kids. “Let peace and beauty be found here: remember those who have served us well.” As I read this saying backwards, I shared with my kids that if we want peace and beauty in our home and our lives, we need to understand how to serve each other well. I have shared our family rules, but it is worth a repeating. Live Better. Love Better. Serve Better.
On this July 4th, may we all remember those that served our country well. We are living in peace and freedom, because of those who walked before us and served us well. Those who first declared independence from tyranny. Our founding fathers who sacrificed and mutually pledge to each other “our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.” They put their names on a document, The Declaration of Independence, endeavoring to establish and serve the United States of America. One nation. Under God. Indivisible. With liberty and justice for all.
There is another Father, our divine and Heavenly one, who sacrificed and provided a way for freedom through His Son – Jesus. Jesus Christ came not to be served but to serve and became a sacrifice for many, that all might have life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness – Joy. Our fore fathers, knew that faith produces joy in any and every circumstance.
The flags flying this weekend remind me of the freedom I hold dear, but the cross of Christ propels me to a deeper beauty and peace. This peace surpasses all understanding and guards my heart and mind always. Let those who remember, serve well and live with peace and beauty in their lives.
Peace & Beauty
Reflect. Remember. Serve.
Where does my peace come from? How can I serve others well?
