Open Door

“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Luke 11:9
I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. John 10:9

Last week my family and I went to the “happiest place on earth” to experience times of memory making. Only one week later, that same place has closed it’s doors (at least temporarily). These are crazy times and the world is watching, waiting and closing doors. People are being challenged to stay at home or at least be responsible in their going out and coming in. In the Bible there is a door that will one day shut, but for now that door is open. It is open to my family and yours where the happiness lasts for eternity.

These times of crisis bring out the best in people and sometimes the worst in us all. I admit I am a little daunted by the idea of my family of 6 being together for three weeks in our home. The feeling of all this togetherness and the 24-hour kitchen duty is a bit overwhelming. I read this morning about how Nehemiah lead his people to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem and it renewed my strength and courage for the task ahead. Our home has some rebuilding projects, some relationships that need restoring and our souls some reconnecting with what really matters.

This crisis will someday pass, but what remains is who we love and who loves us. There will be financial, physical and social impacts to our societies. God is in control of the rebuilding and it starts with each heart and home. Looking deep within my soul and understanding how wide, long, high and deep is the love of God for me. (Ephesians 3:18-19) These are times when what matters most boils to the surface. Being prepared, staying strong and feeding one’s faith instead of one’s fears is crucial. God desires a people who are ready to open their hearts and build with Him. The door is open and ready for all to walk in.

Open Door
Rebuild. Restore. Reconnect.

What can I do in the next weeks to rebuild, restore and reconnect with God and others?
