Live into Summer

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21

For most moms, summer is a time of extra work, planning camps, vacations, day outings and scheduling pool time. One of my friends said she felt like a cruise director, always trying to find something for her kids to do. Parenting has changed over the years. My mom would feed us and send us outside to find something to do all afternoon. There was plenty of work if we came inside (she would find a chore for us to do). When did that mindset or manner of looking at summer shift? Times are different we say. Or are they? What has changed? The weather or our perspective around entertaining our kids for the summer. Keep them busy. Keep them scheduled. Keep them entertained.
Is it okay to be bored?

My friend sent me this Pinterest post. I think I will hang it up this summer to remember.

This will be my first summer to work and have kids home during the daytime. I am a bit apprehensive and if you don’t hear from me this summer, please check in! I know I have to have a clear strategy and focus. So I came up with this model for our home, that I thought I would share with you to hold me accountable. I am going to try to make it simple. Create summer goals/plans around three areas: Focus. Fruitful. Fun.

Strategies are good and many are the plans of a man’s heart, but it is really God’s purposes that prevail. (Proverb 19:21) Before kids get out of school, spend some time asking God what He wants you to focus on this summer. Where can your family be fruitful and faithful? Focus on those things. Don’t try to do too much! And because it is summer, get out there and have fun with it. Make sure laughter and joy are filling your home. This is my challenge for myself. Happy to have anyone join me for the challenge to live into summer.
