Come, let us settle this,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are scarlet, they will be as white as snow; though they are crimson red, they will be like wool. Is 1:18
Lately, there has been lots of engagement surrounding cancel culture. Largely due to the fact that freedom of speech is such a strong held value in the United States. Plus the reasons people are getting canceled are not always justifiable. There is not a tolerance for diversity of ideas, just a convergence of humans trying to impose their own righteousness on the situations that can only be resolved by God’s justice and righteousness. Jesus provides the only good cancel culture. Jesus spoke clearly and loudly with His sacrificial life not just with His words.
He uplifts all people and promotes freedom as a gift not an entitlement. The world’s cancel culture is endeavoring to resolve decades of generational sin with a Bandaid. Jesus canceled all sin for all time on the cross. The greatest and most significant cancel culture event of all time.
On Good Friday, Christians celebrate this canceling of all our sins. The ones we committed yesterday, today and tomorrow. What does this actually look like? Recently, God showed me exactly what this looks like in a revelation as I was worshiping at church. I was strangely reminded about the time last year when we decided to transfer all my google drive documents to our iCloud account. The links to all my files transferred, however when I went to access them, they were blank. This is what the cancel culture of Jesus looks like, our sins are known (there are links there), but there are no records or files of them in our account. This is what the gift of freedom looks like. He has washed us and cleansed us of all our sin and put on us a robe of righteousness, making us white as snow. A clean, blank account with no sin attachment. This is why Good Friday is so good. The canceling of our debt of sin and the freedom we can have in Christ Jesus. He paid it all! One time on the cross, transferring the sins of the world upon Himself.
All my sins for all time are forgiven and wiped clean. Forever! Not just for the day or for the week or for this season. As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. (Ps 103:12) It is the free gift of grace and nothing we can earn or do, we are set free by His blood on the cross. All I have to do is receive this freedom as a gift of grace. Jesus’ cancel culture is not a fad but Forever!
Good Cancel Cutlure
Freedom. On the Cross. Forever.
