Wisdom has set her table – come and eat my bread and drink my wine. Leave your simple way, and live and walk in the way of insight. Proverbs 9:2, 5-6
Setting the table at our home is a simple family chore assigned to my older kids. The younger ones have caught on and try to help out too. In theory, they all can haphazardly place the plastic cups and plates on the table. Occasionally, even a napkin makes its way to the table if they remember and are willing. Our table is not elegant, but functional. God sets His table in a similar fashion for me. It may not be elegant but He knows what I need at any given moment – something practical.
By His wisdom, the table is set – a simple course which includes His bread and His wine. When I sit to dine, I enjoy the very presence of God – the Bread of life – in each verse I read. Accompanied by the wine that provides my ultimate cleansing which is reflected throughout the Bible. As I sit at His table and delight in this heavenly meal – I gain a deeper insight and knowledge of who the Father is and His sacrifice for me. Each morsel of wisdom makes me realize His grace over me and creates a hunger for more truth.
The blessings of this table are clear. “For by me your days will be multiplied, and years will be added to your life.” (Proverbs 9:11) This free benefit is truly unimaginable to me. God’s gift of wisdom is set at my table to enjoy and produces longevity for my life. He has covered the cost and has made the invitation. It is set everyday, without me asking or begging for it. It is there for my nourishment and encouragement. Tailored to meet my needs for that day. For my every day. A refreshing retreat prepared for me to sit, taste and experience the bread and wine.
