“But one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42
It finally happened. The plate actually broke while I was eating on it. After ten years of marriage, the plates in our home were realizing their final days. All cracked and chipped, I broke down and got some replacements.
This made me analyze my life and what else was broken and needing updates. Namely, my walk with God. I get accustomed to my daily routine and reading (or sporadic reading) and it seems like enough. I don’t stop to enjoy it. I scarf it down and move on to the busyness of my day. I don’t notice the crack and chips in my soul. Not until something breaks. Then, it is time for renewal.
Lately, I try to meditate on a scripture for the week. To really sit and feast on a book, chapter or portion and enjoy it. To savor the richness. To be overwhelmed by the beauty of God’s love and grace for me. To take it one bite at a time. To discover the flavor of the writer and his love relationship with the Lord.
Sometimes less is more. Simplifying, slowing down and getting uncluttered in my soul. Mary discovered this as she dropped everything to sit at His feet. He was her portion for the day. He can be my portion. Day in and day out. No matter the struggle, trial or test. On good days and bad. On clean, unstained plates and on chipped platters broken over time.
Jesus offered His perfection for us, so we could taste and see His portion is enough.
Perfect Portions
Broken. Renewed. Small Portions. Feast. Savor.
What portion am I giving and what portion do I receive?
Is this sufficient for me?
