Monkey Business

May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble! Psalm 20:1
May he answer us when we call. Psalm 20:9

This year I decided to start a New Year’s tradition and make a cake. Not any cake but one that I can share with others. Making a cake is fun, but this one in particular takes time, getting your hands messy and like it’s name involves lots of monkey business. First, I had to make the dough and then enlist several helpers for the assembly. My mother-in-law and daughter were eager to help and learn. This type of monkey business is much like life – it takes time and lots of juggling of balls to put together. The key is to seek help and trust in the God who created you knows how it all comes together. Looking ahead to 2020, I want to find the balance in juggling my life by taking my cares to God, praying and trusting Him with all the results.

Take your troubles to God
For 2020, life may be full of trials and struggles but I know I am not alone. I find great encouragement in Psalm 20. This year, like King David did, I want to take all my troubles to the Lord. Knowing and believing God is there protecting and providing for me. Praising Him for the help He sends my way. Trusting not in my own chariots (tools and abilities) but trusting in the name of the Lord my God (Psalm 20:7).

Take time to Pray & Praise
Sometimes in the midst of one’s circumstances it is best to start a new playlist. Satan loves to put on repeat lies that penetrate the darkest parts of my soul. These lies only become real as I believe them to be. The power of prayer and praise creates a new playlist of truth. I need to replace these lies with God’s truth and knead this truth into my soul.

Take time to Trust
There will always be lots of balls for me to juggle. I know I have a ways to go until I see it all come together. In the end, my life and yours is like little balls of dough coming together to form our life’s story. Trust God to form it into a beautiful masterpiece oozing with love and grace. Knowing God’s ultimate desire for us is to live a life glorifying Him. Time to make some cake!
