And all the people went their way to eat and drink and to send portions and to make great rejoicing, because they had understood the words that were declared to them. Nehemiah 8:12
Last summer, my husband and I were invited to a fancy gala dinner for the grand opening of a stadium. My husband was a part of the design team for this magnificent structure. The owners of the team wanted to thank and celebrate with all those involved in the project. It was one of the fanciest receptions I have attended. I felt like Cinderella all dressed up in my ball gown enjoying this elaborate feast.
The Hebrew word for Feast or Festival is “Moed” which means divine appointments. The feasting on God’s word is like a divine appointment everyday. It is where I get my downloads and discover what God would like for me to do and be about. I need this feasting even if it is only bits and pieces at a time. I am continually discovering that God gives us what we need for that season or that day!
During a sermon at church, I was struck by God’s heart for us, His people. He gave us His word to feast on so that we could thrive on it and be able to have more than enough to share with others. In Nehemiah’s time, the people had forgotten the word or it had been lost to them. Once they tasted the word of God again, they had a celebratory feast. I feel like that is where we are as Christians today. Our attention is continually distracted by frivolous matters and our feasting on the word of God may have become sporadic and perhaps largely forgotten.
For this daily Moed with God, I don’t have to get all dressed up (unless I want to). The invitation is clearly sent. The host is ready and waiting. My presence and participation is the only requirement. The feast is ready to be enjoyed.
Moed
Divine. Appointment. Feast. Enjoy.
How am I enjoying my daily Moed with God?
