Journey


Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23


The past two weeks many of us have spent time feasting with family and friends. Gathering and celebrating the joys of the season and hopefully the reason for the season. I have spent the last week on a road trip in a 15-passenger van with 9 of us journeying down south for a holidays. There and back we logged more than 30 hours on the road, stopping along the journey to refuel and refresh. I started writing this post on my journey home (before I found out we all had COVID) and now realizing our journey was really a living, growing Petri dish =)

As I reflect on 2021 and anticipate 2022, even through this especially long year, knowing my destination and purpose keeps me focused and steady on the road. For each of us on our journey, we need times of reflecting, refreshing and refueling. Time for renewing our heart, mind, body and soul. Taking time in the journey of life (whether through resolutions or not) to reflect, refuel and refresh our priorities and promises. Promises we make to ourselves are called resolutions. Promises God makes to us are revelations. Which one will I trust more in 2022?

Refresh
Sometimes on the road trip, we needed to take stock of how everyone was doing and whether they needed a pit stop. Changing drivers or changing seats is refreshing. In life, changing the driver’s seat with God is best idea. He is the ultimate driver and provides the guidebook to refresh our souls. He provides new mercies every morning. 

Refuel
On my road trip/Petri dish, there was lots of need for refueling – both the van and us. I know my life needs lots of refueling, especially with the demands of motherhood and work. I know my primary refueling comes through my time with God. Finding a good routine that works for my season of life. Challenging myself to stay consistent, practical and prayerful. Surrendering my day and agenda to Him. Finding enjoyment and nourishment in His revelations. 

Reflect
I love to start my new year with time in God’s truth, creating an acrostic for our family using our last name. Giving our family guiding principles and promises to live by for our journey in 2022. This is a helpful tool to use to reflect back in 2021 and look at areas to work toward in 2022. How closely are we walking with God?

May your journey be living and growing in God’s promises, knowing you can find Him anywhere and everywhere, even along the highway, even through COVID and even now in 2022. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
