“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Rom. 8:28
One time I was driving with my son and he asked, “Mommy how do you know everything?” With a smile on my face for his sweet trust in me, I explained, “I don’t know everything, but I do know the One who does. When we don’t know things, God knows. He does give us the ability to learn things and that is why we go to school to learn more things.” This knowledge is great. Knowing God is greater. His wisdom is the greatest.
The verse above states that ALL things work together for good to those who are called according to his purpose. The first part however, I used to skip, but I think it is crucial. It is the knowing part….”and we KNOW.” The word for know in Hebrew is “eido” which means to see or perceive with one’s eyes or senses. The same word for know is also used in the prior verse, Romans 8:27, “And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit. God knows us and gives us the Spirit to help us know Him. This knowing is important to relationships. Knowing God knows us is just as important as us knowing Him. Knowing that all things work together for good is part of that relationship in knowing and trusting Him. Just like my son trusted I knew everything.
Lots of people go through life not knowing God, but that does not mean God does not know them. He does. He created them. He desires relationship with them. He desires to hold them with the help of the Spirit. To guide, protect and provide for them. He is our Heavenly Father. Just like this image above, of a Father holding and seeing his child, that is how God sees me. He knows me. I need to remember to let that sink into my heart and mind. Wherever I am, whatever is going on in my life. God knows. God holds. God sees me as His child.
Lots of people go through life knowing God, knowing his love for them, yet there are times when that “knowing” and trusting is not there. We stop seeing or perceiving His care and love over us. If that is you today, please look at Romans 8:27 again before you go to 8:28, they go together. His Spirit guides us to the knowing. This is the comfort, grace and support He gives as He holds us and sees us through all the seasons of our lives. God knows. He sees. He is at work. Our job is trying to know Him more. Trusting Him more. He holds us!
God Knows Everything
Knows. Sees. Holds.
What is holding me down from knowing who holds me up?
