Freedom

Summer is here and I have freedom from homeschooling my kids! This week was the last day of school or the first day of summer, however I choose to look at it! I have shed many tears this week, as my oldest finishes elementary and my two youngest move into her school as kindergartners. I have anticipated these moments for years and yet cherish them too! We had twin cabooses while our oldest was finishing kindergarten – 4 kids under the age of six! However challenging the years have been, they have definitely flown by.  Soon our kids will fly the nest, just like our robins did a few weeks ago. All grown up and ready to seek freedom on their own.

Memorial Day Weekend is a time to commemorate freedom and enjoy this freedom with family, feasting and summer fun! While there will be no parades, the flags will still flow, the BBQ’s will still smoke and the celebration of freedom will be strong in the ‘land of the Free and home of the Brave.’  I tear up every time I sing this in our national anthem, because this freedom came at a cost. Let’s not forget the freedom we celebrate was paid by many brave men and women who served and died for this country. Let’s not forget that eternal freedom is paid at the cross of Jesus Christ.

I will admit the last few months in our home have been more than a little challenging…sometimes war-like as I am fighting my kids to do their homework. My homeschooling friend reminded me that this was an emergency situation and not something I chose to do like she did. She encouraged me to allow myself and my kids some grace. One saving grace this month has been studying a Proverb per day and praying them over our kids.  Chasing after God’s wisdom provides perspective and feeds the soul. Here is where true peace and freedom can be found.
“My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace will add to you. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.” (Proverbs 3:1-2,7-8).
Chasing His wisdom can bring healing to your body and refresh your bones. Lets celebrate the freedom of our country and the freedom we all can have in Christ Jesus.

Freedom
Commemorate. Celebrate. Chase.

How am I celebrating my freedom? Am I chasing after wisdom to find my freedom?
