Cut the F.A.T.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Phillippians 4:6-7

In the month of Thanksgiving, I thought it timely to focus on fat, but maybe not the fat you are thinking of. Sometimes in life there are things weighing us down more than the physical fat. When this happens, I realize I need to cut the FAT out of my life. It is mind over matter and in the mind it does matter. Things begin to build that do matter – my inner FAT – Fears. Attitudes. Temptations. (F.A.T.)

Fears. Many of us are driven more by the fear of man than fear of God. The focus can be on pleasing self and/or pleasing others more than what pleases God. Cutting the fear and aligning to the fear of God is true wisdom. This wisdom of God is first pure and peaceable. (James 3:17) When there is fear in your life there is the absence of peace. I see this at night when my kids are fearful and cannot sleep. They need security to find peace. Grown-ups are the same, security equates peace. Freedom equates peace. Where in your life do you need to cut the fear and find peace?

Attitudes. Attitudes align with mindset. Our attitudes can be either prone to the negative or positive. I can either face life with half full mugs of coffee or half empty mugs of coffee (or tea). Having perspective and resilience is the key to my attitude. Being a climber and not someone who avoids or camps out in one place. It is hard to move forward without taking the first step. Are you camping out waiting or climbing on your own strength?

Temptations. There will always be temptations or distractions to weigh us down or help us loose our focus. Jesus had temptations but He never altered from His calling and neither should we. Keeping our eyes on the eternal prize and finding others in our journey who will help us walk down the right path. Accountability, perspective and partnership are keys to helping us flee from temptation and draw near to God. How can I avoid temptations and go with God?
